Jamal Smith


Washington, DC based artist specializing in the graphic arts and Illustration and design, Jamaul Smith has a very simplistic style that captures the attention of his audience. Ranging from realism to abstract, he creates an involving elemental value throughout his works focusing on the black aesthetic.
In 1998 he attended Suitland High School VPA his junior year from Alamogordo HS, New Mexico to further his arts education from which he excelled past in NM. Still though, at Suitland, his raw talents in the classroom and on the track made him achieve higher learning. Thus, getting a partial scholarship to Syracuse University VPA in 2000. A good turning point in his experience at the University was his interacting with students and faculty to hone in on his skills and refine them. It became clear that if you want to succeed in anything, you have to work for it. It doesn’t matter how good you are, you have to want it.
In 2005 he joined forces with Artwork Mbilashaka (AM Radio) out of DC to work with other artist like himself to captivate the minds of people at every live painting exhibition up and down the east coast.
Currently he is a freelancing graphic artist working on children’s books, logo design, tattoo design, greeting cards, portraits and murals to name a few. He envisions for himself to keep growing as an artist constantly learning from others and pushing himself to that next plateau. With nothing but positive energy surrounding him he will become a person to look out for.
